Post Production Preliminary

Before we began to edit, a Year 13 student explained to use how to use the editing suit provided by the school. Pinnacle editing software. With guidance and basic common sense it was easy to get grasp of the editing suite. However we encountered a few problems, Firstly we made the mistake of not zooming in to edit the shot, by not doing this was cut into the next scene to early and this made the transition look jumpy and amateurish, however by zooming in we had pin point the part of the shot that needs to be cut to a further degree of accuracy.
We secondly found that on Pinnacle there was no music on there that fit the actual scene. Music is very important because it sets the audiences mood, weather they would be happy or sad, scared or excited. By not matching our scene to music it made the scene look amateurish and not professional also makes it look like we are just having a laugh and joke around. This Prelim enabled us to understand that music is vital in our Thriller.
We also had lighting problems, in our location the lighting was directly at the camera because of the time of day and, this made us realise that the time of day and where the camera is positioned is vital to how the shot will look on play back, in the same way, lighting may be needed if the room is dark. This gave us an understanding of how to use our shots to best suit the mood of the shot.
Our Preliminary task proved very useful because it enabled use to get a fuller understanding of what we need to produce an accurate Thriller. Also how to use the camera, lighting and editing equipment to make the Thriller look as professional as possible.
