Title Sequences

Title sequences are a key aspects in films. They decide to the audience weather it will be a thrilling film, they give an insight of the tempo of the film for example f the title sequence is very quick and action packed the majority of the film would consist of action and violence. the title sequence in the film 'Goodfellas' the url is (www.youtube.com/#/watch?v=s8pQJOeTkFs). The title sequence for this film is very clever it uses the credits of the Director; Martin Scorsese, Joe Pesci, Robert de Niro and Ray liotta. Also the Director Martin Scorsese uses the title work of the famous Soul Bass who is described as a title artwork genius and has been used him for the films Goodfellas (1990) Cape Fear (1991) Doc Hollywood (1992) Mr Saturday Night (1992) The age of Innocence (1993) and Casino (1995).
Soul Bass has inspired many other films for their title sequences for example Catch me if you can (2002) and X-Men: First Class (2011) both title sequences are fast based and very enjoyable to watch both are inspired by the work of Soul Bass and his 60's era of title sequences because both films are set during the 60's
The actual title sequence is very clever and goes against the stereotype of the film with being very traditional with the text print unlike Goodfellas which is just a box type text filled with white paint and a black ground goes well especially with each of the credits sound behind the credits which is traffic noise and then tells you that the film is based on a true story and then goes straight to the title of the film 'Goodfellas' which is in red large text which a black background which stands out also the red indicates to the audience that it could be very gory and lots of blood with the colour red which persuades the audience that red equals blood and danger.

After the title sequence it goes straight to a mid-shot of the car where the noises of the credits come from. The use of sound and this particular sound shows that the title sequence is part of the scene and explores whats happening
The effective aspect of this title sequence is that there is no waiting around for the film to start it does what it needs to do, shows who it needs to show and then BANG!!! straight in to the film, this aspect is very good because people will not get bored of watching all the credits its quick, sharp and effective
